End of summer smells
We went riding on the bike this afternoon which is always a treat for the senses. Today it was beautiful to the eye and delightful to the nose! Driving through residential areas you could smell fresh cut grass; this is a scent that is forever linked to summer and also to my father. He loved to tend to his lawn. He used one of those push mowers without a motor. And he was keen on clipping things with hedge clippers.
When we hit a more rural area you could smell brush burning. The smell of wood burning is such a pleasing scent to me. Sometimes when Dad would tidy up the yard there would be brush to burn. Woodsmoke is mostly a autumn and winter scent though.
Then we went into Clemson. The Tigers played at home today and after the game we rode threw town and could smell all the tailgater food cooking. The aroma of food being cooked outdoors is also a favorite smell, related to backyard barbecues and all kinds of outdoor activities.
That made us hungry so we wt to Spanky’s BBQ in Six Mile for some of our favorite smelling (and tasting!) food. I love their apple barbecue sauce!
Vacation 2008
This summer we took off for a few days to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, home of Dollywood and Splash Country, not to mention more pancake houses than I’ve ever seen before! I used Priceline.com to help locate the best motel fee and wound up at a great hotel called the Rodeway Inn. What was great (for us) was that it was at the edge of the main drag there, and slightly away from the congestion of wall-to-wall activities, hotels, shops, and eateries. Of course, we had the required pancake house with free breakfast each day and everywhere is along their trolley line, so you can leave your car at your hotel and still see and do everything!
